Standing proudly beside the “Power T” is the University of Tennessee’s own double zero, Smokey, the symbol of the Volunteer nation. Vol fans across the country will want to proudly display this famous mascot to help cheer on the Big Orange.
Smokey was, and is, a blue tick coonhound, a native Tennessee breed. In 1953, the Tennessee pep club held a contest to select a mascot and “Smokey” won by a large margin. There have been nine Smokeys since, carrying on a very strong tradition.
A costumed Smokey was added in the 1980s, with the present version appearing in 1988. He has turned out to be so popular that he is a three-time winner of the national mascot championship and was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2008. Our Smokey is made of premium cast stone and hand-painted to perfection.
