Although the present logo is one of the newer symbols in college athletics, the Mizzou tiger dates all the way back to civil war times, when natives of Columbia, Mo., campus home of MU, courageously defended their town against notorious marauders. In 1890, the university's football team adopted the brave citizens' nickname of "The Missouri Tigers".
